ICL (Indian Cricket League)

Once upon a time there was a sport that we Pakistani use to be very proud of; we had the league of extra ordinary sportsmen that had the ability to beat any team on any ground. We use to call it cricket I guess… I remember I was such a big fan of Imran Khan when I was a kid that whoever use to ask my name I used to reply that my name is Imran Khan and that what was my nick name back than.

But things have drastically changed since than. Yes we still have the fastest bowler and fastest century maker still in our league but the spirit has gone like it was never there. My father once told me about an Australian business man and cricket lover Kerry Pecker; who arranged a cricket series in the 70’s. He hand picked some veteran and dynamic cricketers like Imran Khan, Zaheer Abbas, Graham Gooch(England), Sunil Gavasker etc from every test cricketing nation, paid them handsomely and made them play in his series.

The same kind of a series is making big headings these days; they are calling it the Indian Cricket League (ICL). The cricketing gurus predict it as a big blow for the ICC as the cricketers are twice thinking before signing their central contract. Reason; money talking and damn they are paying millions. National hero Inzimam and Muhammed Yousuf signed a 10 curore deal with ICL. Razzak and Imran Farhat are the latest to join the bandwagon. Ex skipper and wicket keeper Moin Khan is the middle man in Pakistan and making the deals possible.

Now this is a big blow for the national cricket. Who’s responsible? PCB I say. One may ask why? Well in a non democratic country every organization is headed by the friends and family members of the dictator. The story of Pakistan is no different. The president of PCB has always been the guy in uniform or the family member of any minister. The board members have always been some talent less bastards who have hardly played any cricket but are related to the ministry some how. As a result we see the cricketing decline in these years.

Some predict ICL would be better for the cricket. I can’t see how but it’s definitely very beneficiary for the cricketers. Especially those cricketers who are quite near to retirement.

ICL can succeed provided India makes more of first round exits. BCCI is the richest sports body in India and beating it would be tough..the only incentive for the players will be perform better for money.
And yes Imran Khan’s era was definitely a golden era in Pakistani cricket..we all miss him

Well I dont like cricket but I watch it sometime especially it comes on Indian Pakistan match. Well its not abt patriotism, its abt professionalism. Wht PCB is doing with the professional players of Pakistan is known to everybody and if they have some opportunity, they can surely avail it. Asif can have 7 crore if he signs ICL ( i dont know that he signed ICL or not) and I think the most important man of Pakistan Cricket Team SHOAIB AKHTAR also goto ICL because they offer him 12 Crore. Let c wht happens next in the Pakistani team and also other important teams.

Sunil Gavaskar refused the offer of Kerry Packer, Ammar.
We in India also admired Imran Khan.
The only reason ICL could fail is that most of us in the subcontinent watch the game for patriotic reasons and not for the game itself. Big names won’t matter if there is no sentiment involved.

I dont agree with u pr3rna coz many ppl watch their favorite players also and also patriotism comes in our case only Pak India match.

    @ Pr3rna

Tx for the correction* Mr Gavasker never went to Kerry Pecker’s series. But i agree with Hassan on this one I have always watched the game for my favourite players. Ambrose , Waseem Akram, Brian Lara and now for Shoaib n Afridi.

Look at India they all worship Sachin if it was for cricket only he would have retired ages ago. Like n Austrailia; the players either get retired or the board dont select them in the squad iimmidietly after their peak time is over.

    @ Sharique

welcome to Ronin, how about India? who was Indias Imran Khan? Kapil Pajee perhaps…

kapil Dev, no doubt was India’s favourite bowler and allrounder. He was the Captain of our World Cup winning team. You should see the movie’ kabul Express’ and there would be no confusion after that.

It is a good film Ammar and I recommend it. Don’t watch it as a citizen of a country just watch it as Ammar you would like the humour. The Afghans are not very happy about the film though. There were some news about banning the film in Afghanistan, but then the producer said that they don’t allow Films anyways 🙂 🙂

ICL has taken one of the biggest blunder by allowing Kiran More to join them. He is not only selfish and money minded but also mischevious and politically vindictive.
